The SPEAK UP Campaign was launched in 2002 by CPYV based on the insight that in the overwhelming majority of instances of youth violence, young people know about threats before violent acts occur.

SPEAK UP provides an innovative and effective hotline and awareness campaign that makes it safe and easy for students to anonymously report threats of violence, while working to turn around negative social norms that prevent young people from “speaking up.”

The SPEAK UP program has demonstrated significant success

  • The SPEAK UP hotline has received over 38,000 calls since its inception, leading to the documented prevention of hundreds of acts of violence.
  • In every instance where a community-based program has been implemented, there has been a dramatic increase in hotline calls.
